General Information:
Information and requirements for obtaining U.S. passports, citizenship and visas (including immigrant and non-immigrant) may be obtained in Canada by calling 1-900-451-2778 or by visiting the website http://www.amcits.com.

Visa applications are accepted by appointment only. Appointments can be made at the Visa Appointment Reservation System web site or by calling 1.900.451.2778 (in Canada) or 1.900.443.3131 (in the U.S.) or 1.888.840.0032 (for calls by credit card).

Visa Application Forms

In general, all applicants, including infants and children, must appear in person for the visa interview at which time, in addition to an interview, the consular officer will digitally capture the fingerprints of applicants ages 14-79. In the case of applicants under 14 years, a parent or guardian must appear in person to accompany.

Consulate Calgary does not issue visas on the same day as the appointment. Visa processing at the Consulate will generally be next day delivery but could take up to three working days or longer to be processed. Those applicants that are approved, and are Canadian-based applicants, should provide an XPRESSPOST "regional" envelope (from Canada Post or Canada Post outlet) to consular personnel at the time of the visa interview. Applicants that reside in the United States should expect to remain in Canada for at least three working days and return to the consular section on the appointed day to collect their new visas.

Visa applications that need more administrative processing can expect the visa process to take several weeks, and in some cases, several months. Processing time may vary. To avoid not getting a visa in time for your scheduled departure to the United States, you should make your appointment well in advance of your planned departure.

NOTICE:
All visitors must be screened prior to entering the U.S. Consulate and are subject to inspection via walk-through metal detector and hand-held metal detector. Moreover, personal items are also subject to full inspection by use of x-ray and other detection equipment.

Any visitor refusing to submit to security screening shall be prohibited from entering the U.S. Consulate.

The following items are prohibited inside the U.S. Consulate: ANY electronic equipment of any kind (cell phones, cameras, Blackberries, laptop computers, tape/CD/MP3 players, pagers, palm pilots, car remotes, batteries, etc.), briefcases, backpacks, any luggage, large purses, etc., weapons of ANY kind, mace or pepper spray, any sharp or bladed objects, any oil or chemical-based sprays, liquids, or lotions, contraband items, food and beverages, and/or oversized strollers.

Consular-Related Visitors: The following persons may accompany a visa applicant during Consular-related visits: Interpreter: Applicants may bring ONE interpreter if they do not speak English well enough to participate in an interview, Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring ONE person to help if they are elderly, disabled, or if the applicant is a minor child applying for a visa, Attorney: An attorney may accompany client(s) applying for a visa, U.S. Citizens: One American citizen may accompany an applicant.

Due to waiting room size, the large volume of applicants and the time required to screen consular clients, other accompanying persons cannot be admitted to the waiting room. Drivers, friends, extra relatives must wait outside or return to meet the applicant after the interview has been completed.
