Consul General Lochman celebrates American Independence
2 July 2009: Calgary
Consul General Laura Lochman and her husband Joseph Schaefer celebrated their first Independence Day in Canada on July 2 by hosting hundreds of guests at the Consul General’s official residence in Calgary. In her remarks, Lochman highlighted the productive partnership between the United States and Canada in the areas of trade, public health, environment and North American security. “With the most robust relationship of any two countries in the world, we share not only an enormous border, but the fundamental values that define our societies,” she said. Guests included leaders from the Calgary business community, arts and education sectors, municipal representatives, federal and provincial officials. Premier of Alberta Ed Stelmach offered words of welcome to Consul General Lochman and her family on behalf of Alberta. Under sunny skies, the crowd enjoyed a classic American summer menu, samplings of American beer and wine, and the sounds of Dixieland, courtesy of the HMCS Tecumseh Naval Reserve Band.
