Kids in Calgary got a treat from Franz Spohn during the recent Calgary International Children’s Festival.

The Pennsylvanian artist and educator invited children to help him create a mural of Mayor Naheed Nenshi completely out of gumballs. The artwork was commissioned by Calgary’s Museum of Contemporary Art and composed with 12,408 gumballs strategically placed in long clear tubes to create a 6x6-foot piece of art. Spohn also created a surprise second mural of Alberta’s newly elected premier, Alison Redford during his visit to Calgary.

Redford and Nenshi were the latest in a long line-up of sugary tributes created by Spohn which include American icons President Barack Obama, Michael Jackson, Martin Luther King and Roy Rogers. Mayor Nenshi was reported to be pleased with the sweet results of Spohn’s work.
